Information
Lot # 147
Lead Colt SA .45cal SN 13XXX revolver
Description
7 1/2" barrel, 80% NY engraved exhibition panel scenes of Northern Plains Indians made in 1876. Factory letter records the revolver as 45 caliber, barrel length not listed, blue finish, sold to JP Moores but shipped to Schuyler, Hartley and Graham, NY. June 14, 1876, 3 weeks before Colt Philadelphia Exposition in July 1876. The revolver shows matching serial numbers on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder, assembly number 81 on loading gate matching to frame under trigger guard. Engraved coverage includes barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, screws, frame, trigger guard, hammer, loading gate, and backstrap. Left side with Indian warrior on horseback hunting a buffalo with lance, an interesting motif considering the Indian relations in 1876. Condition of revolver is very good, as noted all serial numbers matching, retaining approximately 25-35% nickel, remainder a silver gray, some areas of scattered erosion on barrel ahead of ejector housing and forward area of address, visible nickel in cylinder flutes, ejector housing, top and bottom of frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Included with revolver is factory letter, old notes and a 2 page copy of HD Folsoms ledgers listing highly embellished single actions by serial numbers for Colt Exhibitions 1877 including 10 in the 13,000 serial range. From the Gary Helin collection. Est. 15000-25000
